Spaces & Places

Reimagining Space for Community, Culture and Opportunity

INDIGO YOUTH LTD is developing a long-term vision to transform underused buildings and public land into accessible, creative, and community-led spaces.

Across many communities, particularly those facing social and economic challenges, there is a lack of safe, inspiring environments where young people can gather, create, and grow. At the same time, there are unused or underutilised buildings and spaces that have the potential to be reimagined as hubs for culture, learning, and connection.

Our Spaces & Places initiative brings these two realities together.

Our Vision

We aim to create a network of creative and community spaces that provide:

  • Access to arts, culture, and creative production

  • Safe and inclusive environments for young people

  • Platforms for performance, expression, and collaboration

  • Opportunities for skills development and enterprise

  • Public spaces that encourage community engagement and wellbeing

These spaces will act as physical foundations for INDIGO’s programmes, supporting long-term impact beyond temporary or project-based activity.

Why It’s Needed

Many of the young people we work with face barriers that go beyond access to programmes—they lack consistent, safe, and inspiring environments where they can develop their potential.

At the same time:

  • Public and government-owned spaces often remain unused or underutilised

  • Communities lack accessible cultural infrastructure

  • Opportunities for creative engagement are unevenly distributed

By transforming these spaces, we can create lasting assets that support both individual development and wider community wellbeing.

What These Spaces Look Like

Each space will be shaped by the needs of the community it serves, but may include:

  • Creative studios for music, writing, and digital production

  • Workshop and training areas

  • Performance and event spaces

  • Outdoor park and cultural gathering areas

  • Multi-use community hubs designed for collaboration and learning

Our approach combines creativity, functionality, and accessibility to ensure spaces are welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable.

Where We’re Working

We are developing this work across key communities and cultural regions:

  • United Kingdom – Building on our existing programme delivery and networks

  • Ghana – Developing the Accra Cultural Hub as a central model

  • Future Expansion – Exploring opportunities across the African and Caribbean diaspora, including Jamaica

Our Approach

We work in collaboration with:

  • Local communities and young people

  • Cultural organisations and creatives

  • Local authorities and public sector partners

  • Funders and investors committed to social impact

Our model focuses on co-creation, ensuring that spaces are shaped by the people who will use them.

Current Status

Spaces & Places is a developing area of INDIGO’s work. We are actively exploring partnerships, land opportunities, and funding to bring these spaces to life.

Looking Ahead

By creating permanent, community-led spaces, we are building the infrastructure needed to support long-term cultural and social impact.

This work represents a natural evolution of INDIGO’s programmes—moving from delivering activities within existing environments to creating the environments themselves.
